China has not announced to the general public what its national bird is, but the National People's Congress has advocated that the red-crowned crane be the national bird.

The red-crowned crane is currently the most popular one. The red-crowned crane, with its red crown on its head, long neck and long legs, nimble and graceful movements, is also known as the "Crane" in China and is a symbol of peace, nobility and longevity.

Among the 10 candidate bird species, the red-crowned crane won 64.92% of the votes among 5 million people, far more than the other contestants. China's State Forestry Administration reported the red-crowned crane to the State Council as the only national bird candidate.

A motion proposed by 36 representatives to the fifth session of the Ninth National People’s Congress called for the red-crowned crane to be China’s national bird.
